| i have not written for ages. not because i've joined facebook, because i haven't. not because i twitter, because i don't. But out of the 3 primary Reasons that i joined, only 1 remains....is active, i mean. and it seems most of the bloggers have made an exodus to another spot in the blogosphere in cyberspace. So, if you are reading this, get ready to....get up, stretch, go outside and check the weather. Oh and here's a curious scene to look at. Have fun guessing where. | | |
| Eve made a choice to know more about good & evil and become "like God" (so she was told, but it didn't happen) rather than not know and trust God.
Such was the word of truth that came to a friend and myself as we discussed this insatiable thirst for 'knowing' that women & men have. One example we both knew is how it plays out on the computer: i sit down and plan to read or write one thing, but it leads to another, and then there's a link to another interesting item, and then click, click, click goes the mouse, and OH MY! it's 2 hours later!!!! | | |
| Elyssa & i just returned from grocery shopping. We paused at the bottled-water aisle as we noticed a locked glass case with bottles behind it. Bottles of ... water. For €45. Most products (even fine wines) don't usually have a description attached to the price that is on the self's edge, but this one did. And this is what i read:
Bling H2O is a water for the super-luxury consumer market and is produced in limited quantities. The beautiful handmade bottle, decorated with real Swarovski Crystals, is the brainchild of renowned Hollywood producer Kevin G. Boyd. Bling received the American design accolade “Clear Choice Award” in 2006. The source originates in the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee at a depth of about 800 metres. Bling fans are said to include Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx and Ben Stiller.
Then I noticed other bottled waters, one with a beautiful lacy design on the glass, designed for the water company by Paris fashion designer Christian Lacroix. That one sold for just under €6, which was starting to look like a bargain. Actually, at €1.65, a bottle of San Pellegrino water from Italy (which used to be posh) was looking downright cheap.
The first thing that came to both Elyssa's and my mind was that €45 is a wicked price to pay for a bottle of water when we know there is a huge number of people on this earth that are in need of water.
Blood Water Mission's website gives us the facts:
- 1 Billion very important people lack access to clean water. (Although we don't know them personally, are they really less valuable than we are?) They drink from polluted lakes and streams where animal waste, human waste, and parasites infect the water.
- Women and children walk 2 hours each way to fetch water (hauling dirty water back to their families.) They have no time or energy left for education or small business, and many of them die.
- Preventable water related diseases kill 4 children every minute…Imagine if that many precious ones were dying in the U.S.!
- 25,000 people lose their lives to water-related illnesses every single day.
$1 provides one year of clean water for an African.
I love that phrase, very important people.

| I read a book review about it; intrigued, I ordered it. It was a good read, bringing up questions that we all have at one time or another. Young's story is a vehicle to ponder life's hard questions and explain God's deep love for each one of us His children: "I am especially fond of you" . . .I often would put down the book or re-read a phrase just to have a good think about it. | | |
| So i just watched this 8 minute video "Cardboard Testimonies" of very ordinary people who stand with a phrase that describes them, and another phrase that describes what God has done. It's very simple, but the impact of one person after another after another is weighty. And to think this is a fraction of what is going on all over the earth, all throughout history...well, it moves me to a deeper awe of the God whom we serve. | | |
